Werewolf Moon (Catherine T. Cox)
The lone werewolf moon
sits on its haunches
high in the branches,
crouches in leaves
swift as a mouse’s feet
softly as sighing
watchfully haunting
the drifting clouds flying –
Feel the light of his eyes
probing the forest’s heart
exposing its fears
warning the dreamer beware;
the werewolf moon waits
the pale owl looks on
only his thin eyelids drop;
the innocent wanderer stops...
before she can taste
the piercing flame
of his kiss
she attains a strange bliss
in his coldly volcanic embrace –
The lone werewolf moon
sits on its haunches
watching the soundless stars
waiting for dawn
stroking her still-beating heart
while the smoke-feathered owl
looks on.
